Even the politicians who support our cause are sick of DEFRA’s antics.
Reclassification, getting DEFRA out of our private lives, removing unenforceable or non-universal regulations, getting rid of the higher and lower double standards, dumping the unworkable rating system and paring down these small regulatory novellas just to animal welfare issues is just the bare minimum DEFRA need to focus on.
Endless Frustration.
- With a third of the boarding capacity already lost we must focus on saving any business that can be advised on improvements without being closed down and this cannot be achieved while DEFRA or local authorities are involved.
- We need regulations that are agreed to by our sector, written by our sector, benefit our sector and improves animal welfare - This can only occur if DEFRA are taken out of the picture.
- With the inconsistencies, lack of appeal process we need local authorities to step away from enforcement and quasi-judicial closures and concentrate on the one thing they’re required to do which is issuing licences on time.
- DEFRA created a situation where of our businesses are being replaced by unlicensed and unregulated start up businesses that cannot be controlled, rated or inspected by licensing officers and DEFRA’s only plan is to let it continue.
The public pays for this nonsense and if we ran our businesses at the same speed, with the same levels of negligence and incompetence as bureaucrats, we would all end up on the wrong end of the legal system …. and they face no consequences and have the unmitigated audacity to tell us how to run our businesses.
- DEFRA didn’t want responsibility for our sector and didn’t know anything about animal boarding. But instead of standing back assumed control of our industry and in the end came up with the most inappropriate solutions to any and all real or imaginary problems.
- DEFRA have been offered multiple opportunities through official channels to fix these problems; DEFRA have done nothing, the CFSG have not retracted their advice and licensing officers have not adjusted their behaviour.
- DEFRA’s position is that changes are an admission that their lack of insight, foresight and due diligence is responsible - we can’t get them to do their job because our industry can’t talk truth to power or make them do anything because DEFRA holds all the cards.
