The cluelessness of bureaucrats who decide to write regulations for industries they have no experience of cannot be underestimated - Farmers want to farm - but have the highest suicide rate of any job in the UK - And DEFRA have done everything to prevent farmers from doing their job while pretending that their regulations are necessary to protect the public from rogue farmers … while rogue farmers are almost without exception a figment of their imagination.
DEFRA are desperate to pretend that they could improve animal welfare through regulation.
- DEFRA chose to write an entire industry’s regulations by populating a star system with absurd standards for the sake of a structural pattern rather than improving animal welfare or paying attention to the inconsistencies or lack of practicalities.
- There is only one standard of care and no regulation can replace experience and no red tape can be a substitute for care and awareness.
- Every regulation was written by people who have the intellectual fog that would have them demanding that Olympic swimming rules be conducted under the same rules as fencing because the same sentences looks nice on paper.
When someone takes over responsibility for an entire industry that has nothing in common with any of their core responsibilities, the first thing that no one does is decide that the industry needs a 5 star hotel style rating system and needs their entire regulatory framework rewriting to support the rating system.
But DEFRA went further and did both without talking to anyone in the industry and the level of projection is jaw-dropping. DEFRA have never heard of the words “due diligence”, “duty of care” or “feasibility” because their regulations are built around solving the problem that all catteries and kennels are run as a cross between a sheep farm and a maximum security borstal run by sociopaths with no discernible or other life experience.
The fact that DEFRA wasted public money on writing a small novella that produced the exact opposite of their stated goals is already a world-beating level of incompetence.
But this DEFRA clown show wrote nonsensical and pointless regulations on the back of a 5 star rating system that increased the workload of already exhausted people working 24/7 for less than the minimum wage and forced them to reduce the time the had for animal welfare. These clowns wrote every regulation with only two standards in such a moronic way that 99% of all Catteries can only be awarded 5 stars or 3 stars or driven out of business by local authorities regardless of the standards of animal care!
DEFRA conducted themselves without any due diligence, had no contact with anyone in the industry, exercised zero intellect or duty of care.
DEFRA's bureaucrats imagined hundreds of problems and then wrote two different standards of regulations without any actual data or science to support any of them. Where else in the world would an employee get away with producing almost 30 pages of farcical unworkable horse shit and not be fired or the parent company forced to pay compensation to all the people who lost their holidays or lost their businesses?
