Can't carry out inspections?

Not enough inspectors or the regulations are too difficult for inspectors to understand?

In January, DEFRA officials knew that:

  • There are not enough inspectors qualified to apply their regulations.
  • That almost all of the daily issues with inspections are down to low quality of licensing officers / interpretation / usless councils.
  • One business owner was prevented from operating and had been told to wait months to be inspected.

DEFRA's solution was not to issue blanket five star coverage for any overdue inspection.

Apparently, it's not DEFRA's job to sort out their own mess ... oh nooooo, we have to obtain permission from every council to allow anyone from our own industry to pass a level three inspection course and we can carry out our own inspections!

Which of course would take months to achieve and set up!

So let's get this straight,

  • DEFRA wrote regulations for our industry without any of the necessary advice, knowledge or expertise to write any regulations for our sector.
  • These regulations were written to be enforced by a specific local authority employee that DEFRA had not checked were available in every district and council.
  • And even if DEFRA assumed that the inspector's position was a universal certainty, DEFRA refuse to accept that their regulations are complete and total shite and that virtually no one with a level three inspection qualification has the adequate knowledge or relavent experience to undertake the task.

And it's all someone else's fault because

  • DEFRA's rating system is an unworkable mess, most of their regulations are non-universal, unnecessary and unpoliceable and all DEFRA cares about is not being held to account.
  • DEFRA have not made any effort to take responsibility for the destruction of this industry and have done virtually nothing to prevent more problems occuring.
  • DEFRA have been made aware of dozens of problems with their regulations and have still not found a problem that hasn't turned out to be someone else's job to resolve.
