Corruption & Sunlight

###Sunlight is said to be one of the best disinfectants, just as shining a spotlight scatters the cockroaches into dark corners.

Conflicts of interest appear to have altered the regulations to benefit individual board members:

  • 01 The requirement for every cat to have a scratching post would mean a large cattery having to buy and discard hundreds of scratching posts every year when the CSFG has a representative selling scratching posts - if our customers want their cat to have a scratching post, they provide their own.
  • 02 The decades old regulation to have an isolation room has been invaluable and saved countless lives was replaced by a demand for a partnership with a named vet - A regulation that has worsened the situation it was meant to improve. Previously if we suspected an infection or disease, the cat would be moved a cat to ISO and we'd call the cat's OWN vet - and now we have to use a named vet's iso-cube which they will charge over £100 per day - It's unconsionable that no one at DEFRA had any idea that many cats are not insured - just as it's ridiculous that free market capitalist groups have targetted and bought off all the experienced independent vets and turned the entire sector into an overpriced investment opportunity for shareholders.
  • 03 DEFRA made it mandatory for everyone in this sector regardless of actual experience or qualifications to spend time and money on continual education. This is not defined and could mean watching a vet nurse on youtube, reading cattery and kennel magazine or an OFQAL course, but at any rate, Cats Protection offers online educational courses.
