Dictators, dipshits and autocrats, they all know what's best for you
Politically speaking, the far right libertarian movement surrounding most conservative ideologies advocate for the greatest possible economic liberty and the least possible government regulation of social life - the kind of classic liberalism that was championed by the 19th century robber barons who used any and all unethical or unscrupulous means to amass personal wealth to hold power.
But DEFRA's bureaucrats operate from behind another type of ideology which is rooted in authoritarianism born out of the misguided belief that the power of the state can, should & must be abused to control everything.
And while I don't expect DEFRA to recognise themselves as cast from the same mould as dictatorial dipshits like Putin or abusive totalitarians like Xi, DEFRA made a conscious decision to force unity and cohesion on this industry, and to succeed wants every individual and every business to submit to the will of the state - the basic idea championed by Mussolini's early 20th century fascist party.
DEFRA's arrogant affair with authoritarianism ended the viability of some busisinesses, restrained our economic liberty and targeted a single sector of UK tourism for absolute control.
And we are facing overreaching intrusions by governmental institutions who are writing regulations dictating the terms & conditions of an entire industry's work and social life - none of which has had any positive benefit and has contributed to a decline in animal welfare across the UK.
And while DEFRA can point the finger of blame at the unrepresentative low-information CSFG advisory board for providing the basic stumbling blocks for DEFRA to trip over, it was DEFRA who introduced unfocusssed, unworkable and unnecessary hoops to jump through to receive a license and DEFRA who created the ill-considered monster-piece of a rating system because they had no idea what they were doing.
And while DEFRA's authoritarian conduct is self-evident in the regulations and DEFRA's mismanagement and arrogance present at every level, if any industry representatives had been consulted these regulations couldn't have been written.
DEFRA's failed attempt to squeeze every aspect of our sector into 26 useless and destructive pages could have been aborted prior to its conception because being informed, understanding consequences and carrying out due diligence are not optional, they're central to any government work and DEFRA failed on every level.
